Here I Stand is a game of war, diplomacy and religious struggle set in early 16th century Europe. Up to six players take on the roles of political and religious leaders of the era, each with their own set of goals and ways to score victory points to win the game. Although Here I Stand is primarily a wargame it includes many historical events and persons, rules for the exploration of the New World, the cultural achievements of the Renaissance, Barbary corsairs in the Mediterranean, even Henry VIII's marriages! Most of all it introduces an ingenious mechanic to simulate the spread of the Protestant Reformation in Germany and beyond (the same basic mechanic used in Here I Stand's sequel, Virgin Queen, which covers the latter 16th century). With the 500th Anniversary of the publication of Martin Luther's 95 Theses coming up on October 31, 2017, what better time to revisit this key period in Western and indeed world history.
